Thank you for the advice and professional manner in which the Compliance Review of TIAN Services was handled.
Although it was clear to us that TIAN Services fell outside of IR35, the agreement by HMRC at such an early stage is a fantastic Christmas present for us. As you know, I had expected this to go on for some considerable time. Knowwing I can continue trading without the 'Sword of IT35' hand over us is a great relief.
Although I found the experience quite nerve wracking, I would agree that sitting down with the Compliance Officers (with Qdos in attendance) is the best way to proceed. It's only been just over two months since notification was received and this seemed to be long enough!

As we file away a very large folder which relates to a recent encounter with HM Inspector of Taxes, we are reminded of a debt we owe Qdos and in particular our mentor Keith Preece.
In our lives we have never been 'in the dock' for whatever reason nor have we been 'accused' (even ever so correctly) of any misdemeanour or offence. We have always paid our taxes on or even before they were due, so it was a bit of a shock to find ourselves in an unequal battle with a 'bully' of truly enormous proportions, namely the Inland Revenue inspectors' who seemed pleased to toss us between themselves like a bag of gold waiting to burst.
Fortunately we were in a position to defend ourselves and although the battle was long, 2 1/2 years, it was well fought and justice prevailed.
It might have been esier to concede and pay the money demanded (but not due) as we suspect many innocent people do, but it would not have been right to do so.
It was always good to know that Keith was only a telephone call away and whilst we provided him with enormous amounts of ammunition it was his skill in knowing which to use and where and when to fire it that made the difference.
His advice was always well reasoned and sound and his knowledge of the Revenue invaluable, and to us, very reassuring.
