For freelancers, Qdos Freelancer Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) will protect you against the cost of defending claims where it is alleged that a client has suffered financial loss as a result of your error, omission or negligence. For total peace of mind we highly recommend this cover and premiums start from as little as £144 (including IPT)*. Please click here to view a full rating table.
The responsibilities that professionals have to their clients have changed. As with solicitors and accountants, contractors provide professional advice to their clients which is relied on by their clients. As a consequence you no doubt act with a reasonable degree of care and skill in order to ensure that your clients interests are protected.
However even where care and skill is exercised there is still the potential for you to make a mistake that causes financial loss to a client or for a client to allege that you have made a mistake even if you have not. Whilst such disputes are rare, when they occur they can be costly, Qdos Freelancer Professional Indemnity Insurance will for a modest premium provide you with peace of mind against this risk. We are aware of a PI Claim against an IT contractor in excess of £625,000.
More specifically the Policy will protect you against the cost of defending claims where it is alleged that a client has suffered financial loss as a result of your error, omission or negligence.
In addition having this insurance will add to the perception that you are independent and so will support this argument in the event of an IR35 dispute. Plus it will give your clients the reassurance that there are sufficient resources to handle any recourse in the unlikely event of an alleged breach of duty, adding value to any tender.
This is a guide to the cover given by the policy. It does not cover every provision of the policy
wording, but we will be happy to discuss it with you in more detail. You should read the policy and the additional clauses for full details of the terms and conditions.
Indemnity Limit
The indemnity limit is on an ‘any one claim’ basis (in other words no restriction as to the number of claims in a year but each claim has a maximum limit).

To purchase Qdos Professional Indemnity Insurance please visit the Qdos Shop for Freelance Contractors.
When purchasing a product from our shop you will first be asked to register for an account. Once you have completed our online application form and made payment, you will be able to log into your account to view your policy documents or product information.
It is important that before deciding to purchase a Qdos product you consider whether the insurance is appropriate for you.
You should read thoroughly all the product information we have made available to you, in particular the Specimen Policy Wording together with the Summary of Cover (Key Facts) before deciding to purchase your chosen product. These documents contain the full Policy Terms and Conditions.
Please note that you are basing your purchase solely on your own interpretation of the information we have provided.
Qdos are pleased to advise that we are now able to offer payment by monthly instalments if you pay for any product from the Freelance Contractor shop using your credit card.
By opting to pay by monthly instalments you will then be able to suspend and activate cover so that you only pay premium while you are contracting.
Please note: This is a claims-made policy and not a claims-occurring policy. If a potential claim develops at a time where your Policy is suspended your claim would not be covered by Qdos and you would be liable for the full amount that would have otherwise been covered by your insurance policy. Qdos best advises you to continue cover and discourages you from suspending your Policy even if you are not currently on contract or between contracts. We recommend that you continue cover until you cease trading. If you suspend cover and a claim develops whilst you are not paying premium by monthly instalments your claim would not be covered.
